The series The Dead
are still Dead consist of a suite of monotype prints portraying salvaged
figureheads from wrecked ships. The gazes of these inanimate beings once
asked to protect their ship’s passage, now turn to wistful expressions
revealing an eerie emptiness in each face. Their expressions take on a
more melancholic meaning, as we know they have failed in their
talismanic role. Marks and lines are made through a process of
reduction, removing ink by using fingers, cloths, and either end of a
paintbrush before a unique image is produced. |
